One of my tips for removing strain are vocal cord closure exercises. This is all about working on your technique in a very simple exercise that aims to get the cords coming together at the very onset of sound, the start of the note, without pushing, squeezing, pulling anywhere else in the body.
You are looking out for where in your body tenses up and trying to remove unnecessary muscle tightening or muscle involvement, either in your throat – larynx – or in your stomach or abdomen.

You are trying to just make a very short, snappy “uh” sound. where there is no sound of breath, no air pressure coming first but just the sound of the cords connecting. Then you try this at different points in your range.
