WATCH: Alaska Airlines plane loses engine cover; forced to make emergency landing

An Alaska Airlines flight bound for San Diego was forced to return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after an engine cover detached.

Alaska Airlines said Flight 558 reported an “unusual vibration” on the left side of the aircraft shortly after departure.

In this dramatic video, the cowling of an engine can be seen flying off as the plane appears to land. 176 guests and 6 crew members were on the flight at the time.

Alaska Airlines said no one was injured and passengers were rebooked on another flight.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900ER, is now temporarily out of service while the airline’s safety team investigates.

The FAA said will also investigate.
